Milton Academy tuition and financial aid for 2026-27

Milton lists 2026-27 tuition of $79,900 boarding and $69,900 day. See what is extra, how need-based aid works and when to apply.

Milton lists its 2026-27 tuition as $79,900 for boarding students and $69,900 for day students. That is one annual figure that includes on-campus student experiences and tuition insurance, and the school says it does not charge mandatory fees. Here is how the cost and the aid process fit together for fall 2027 entry.

What tuition does not cover

Book and supply charges are added separately to each student's incidental account. All students are expected to bring a laptop. Daily bus service, music lessons, cultural exchanges and pre-season athletic trips cost extra. Upper School day students are served lunch and are welcome to join boarders for weekday dinners and weekend activities.

How financial aid works

  • All aid is need-based. Milton strives to meet 100% of the demonstrated need for each enrolled student.
  • How need is measured. Milton defines need as the difference between the total cost of attendance and a family's ability to pay. The assessment looks at income and expenses, assets and liabilities, family size, cost of living and the number of children for whom a family must pay tuition.
  • How to apply. Families apply through Clarity, which typically takes less than 30 minutes. The submission fee is $65.
  • Deadline. The aid application is due January 31, 2027, and aid awards arrive with admission decisions on March 10, 2027.
  • Employment expectation. Milton expects parents who seek aid to be employed, with exceptions for caretakers of children under five, live-in care for an elderly dependent, or a prohibitive disability.
  • Renewal. Families reapply each year, and grants are expected to renew at the original level unless demonstrated need changes significantly.

Does need affect admission?

Milton says admission officers first read applications without considering ability to pay. The final phase is need aware, and the committee weighs its decisions against available aid funds.

What Milton reports about aid

Milton lists a financial aid budget of $16.5 million. It says 37% of students (Classes I to IV) receive aid, and the average grant is 77% of tuition.

International families

Financial aid applicants who are not U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents should submit 2024 and 2025 tax documents, and must also submit an employer letter, a bank certificate and November and December 2026 bank statements.

Plan your own numbers

Gather tax documents early so the aid application takes an evening, not a week. Questions go to the Office of Financial Aid at 617-898-2239. Milton also offers payment plans that spread expenses over monthly installments. See the full tuition and aid page, the timeline and the FAQ.
