Milton Academy is a boarding and day school just south of Boston. New students enter its Upper School in Grades 9, 10 or 11, and the application for fall 2027 entry runs on a few fixed dates. This guide lists them in the order families meet them, with what Milton asks for at each step.
Who can apply
Boarding applicants can apply to all three entry grades. Day applicants from the Greater Boston area can apply to Grades 9 and 10. Grade 11 is the last point of admission.
Before the deadline
- Request information first. To schedule an interview, you need to get into the admission portal, and you do that by requesting information. Appointments fill up quickly.
- Interview window. Interviews run September through mid-January, on campus or on Zoom. Every candidate must finish one by January 15.
- Application platform. Apply with the Gateway to Prep Schools application or the SSAT Standard Application Online. The fee is $65 for domestic applicants or $125 USD for international applicants, and waivers are available for financial hardship.
- Biographic profile. Milton asks families to submit it well before the January 15 deadline.
- Testing. Scores are welcome but not required, and students without scores will not be disadvantaged. If you send them, finish testing before January 15.
- Recommendations. Milton requires an administrator, a current English teacher and a current math teacher. Tell those teachers early.

What Milton has not published
Milton does not publish an admit rate, the number of applicants and seats, or average test scores on the pages we reviewed. The fall 2027 essay prompts sit inside the admission portal. The pages also do not list the date the application opens or how long the interview lasts, so check the portal or ask the admission office.
What to do this week
Request information and book the interview, because that is the step that fills up. Then work backward: recommendations, essays and the parent statement, then testing if you plan to send scores. See the full timeline, the application steps and the FAQ.
